IMPOWER shortlisted for two Management Consultancies Association (MCA) Awards

We are delighted that IMPOWER has been named as a finalist in two categories of the 2022 MCA Awards.

The Management Consultancies Association (MCA) is the representative body for management consultancy firms in the UK. Their annual awards demonstrates the value of consulting, and celebrates the results achieved when clients and consultants work together.

IMPOWER has been shortlisted in the following categories:

A summary of each nomination is provided below.

Social value with Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC)

Over the last 18 months, IMPOWER has worked in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to develop an innovative solution that is helping the council to analyse and understand feedback and act on it accordingly. The Listening Tool has been a revelation for its customer services team – turning preconceived ideas and assumptions on their head and opening the door to insight that is informing everything from investment in services to staff development. The council can now quickly filter through comments from thousands of residents and develop a clear picture of what they’re saying. Word has spread around the organisation and more and more staff are eager to find out what it can offer their service areas. One of the commissioners admits that embarking on the prototype with us was ‘a leap of faith’. However, IMPOWER’s consultants’ deep understanding of local government and empowering way of working has equipped staff to take the tool forward as the definitive feedback mechanism to track customer sentiment.

Sophie Ellis, Director of Customer Delivery, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, says: “IMPOWER saw how it could be applicable to our sector – we didn’t! They helped us to work that through and gave us the confidence to take it forward. IMPOWER have got a really good understanding of how local authorities work and were able to quickly understand what we needed to create to drive culture change, build something and make it relevant to individuals dealing with customers – applying it to day-to-day reality.”

Team Leader Consultant of the Year – Ben Evans

Ben Evans has demonstrated guile, determination and resilience to successfully lead a team in extremely testing circumstances. Driving behaviour change within the highly complex world of health and social care is difficult at the best of times – but throw Covid into the mix and you have a challenge of epic proportions. Ben and his team were tasked with introducing new tools and working practices to help patients to get home from hospital as quickly and safely as possible while also delivering longer-term strategic work. Through his leadership, team members were able to work effectively on busy hospital wards and quickly become accepted as a valuable addition to NHS teams at the height of the pandemic.

Facing initial cynicism to his team’s presence, he worked skilfully with the clients at both a senior and frontline level to reassure them and provide challenge where necessary to keep the project on track. He purposely worked in a way that would keep team members out of the firing line – maintaining morale and keeping them focused on delivering change on the ground. The work of Ben’s team has had a dramatic impact in the space of just a few months and has fundamentally altered the way frontline practitioners work while improving outcomes for patients. Hearts and minds have been won over and the consultancy has now been commissioned to continue its work.

Ben Evans says: “I’m both surprised and delighted to be nominated for Team Leader of the year. Whilst it is flattering to be shortlisted for an individual award, this nomination is really the outcome of some fantastic work done by the IMPOWER teams I’ve been lucky enough to be part of over the past year.”

We are extremely proud of our clients’ drive to deliver change and impact despite challenges presented by the pandemic. RBKC’s commitment to delivering better outcomes for citizens enabled our innovative work to continue.

Having our work recognised in this way is highly significant, and we very much look forward to finding out who has won at the MCA Awards Ceremony on 14 November!
