IMPOWER’s Heroes of 2023: 19 December

Samantha Woodcock

Specialist Education Services (SES) in Suffolk work tirelessly to keep children and young people with SEND or other needs in suitable education, no matter their circumstances. This early intervention service provides crucial support to schools, education settings, families and children and young people.

There are many services within SES but there is one service that deserves a shout-out for achieving impact within such a short time – the Education Access Team! Maria Hough, Deputy Headteacher for SES, and Jason Moores, Education Access Team Manager, lead an incredibly hard working, dedicated and positive team who work with internal services and external partners in Suffolk, providing and promoting an inclusive approach to education. They support those at risk of exclusion to stay in mainstream schools where possible, and work with those on part-time timetables to support them coming back into an education setting more and more. From providing Inclusion Support Meetings and frontline support to schools, to the running In Year Fair Access panels, the team go above and beyond to ensure that children and young people have access the right support and remain in education.

Maria, Jason and the whole team in Education Access are incredible individuals who wholeheartedly put children and young people at the heart of everything they do. This is why this team are Heroes of 2023!

From us all at IMPOWER, we thank you all for your dedication to the children and young people of Suffolk.
