IMPOWER’s Heroes of 2022: Dan Baker, Cornwall Council

My Hero of 2022 nomination goes to Dan Baker and the Transport Co-ordination and Eligibility Teams at Cornwall Council. Dan and his team support over 10,000 young people from across Cornwall with their journeys to and from school. Travelling to school takes on a whole new meaning in a peninsula like Cornwall, with some young people travelling to school by ferry and others travelling large distances across the county to access a school that can best meet their needs.

Dan’s commitment to building a sustainable service, his willingness to be honest about the challenges they face (like rising fuel costs!), his understanding of the big picture and the critical role independent travel skills play in preparing young people for adulthood, and his enthusiasm for testing different solutions are why he is my hero of 2022!
