Black History Month 2021: Malone Mukwende

Sandra Ositelu

Malone Mukwende is a medical student and author of Mind the Gap. Malone recognised that the majority of medical students are only taught to diagnosis conditions on white patients. His book “Mind the Gap” and website, Black and Brown Skin aim to begin to close the gap on the lack of diverse medical literature and education, and therefore start the journey to reduce racial health disparities and biases. Both provide images and descriptions of clinical signs on black and brown skin and his work has now been featured worldwide, including via the House of Commons, British Medical Journal and has been read in 102 countries.
