Black History Month 2020: Clarke Carlisle

Caroline Throssel

I would like to recognise Clarke Carlisle as an inspiring individual this Black History Month. Clarke Carlisle is an English former professional footballer and an ambassador for the Kick it Out campaign which works towards eradicating racism in football and provides a platform for football lovers to report abuse. He has also worked to raise awareness and education levels around mental health issues and, in particular, the Dual Diagnosis of mental health disorder and an addiction issue simultaneously, following his own diagnosis and suicide attempt. His work in this area and development of the Clarke Carlisle Foundation for Dual Diagnosis has encouraged young men to seek help early on and undoubtedly saved many lives.
