Sean Hanson

Chief Executive Officer

Sean has worked in and with the UK public sector for over 30 years. He joined Local Partnerships in 2016 from Serco after a period as Managing Director of Citizen Services. Early in his career, Sean spent twelve years at Camden Council followed by spells at Fareham Council, Liberata, HBS/Mouchel, then Serco, and now six years at Local Partnerships. Sean is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and also holds a qualification from the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation.

At Local Partnerships, Sean concentrated on the development of a broader range of strategic propositions, focused on efficiency for the public sector in England and Wales. In addition to providing executive leadership to the organisation, he was an independent advisor, specialising in commercial negotiations, governance, and reorganisation.

In 2019, Sean was appointed as one of five non-executive advisors to Birmingham City Council. He will continue his role as a member of Wirral Council’s Improvement Panel. Sean is also a Trustee and Chair of Education Support, the UK’s only charity providing mental health and wellbeing support services to all education staff and organisations.

In October 2023, Sean was elected onto the Board as a Non-Executive Director for Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE). He is also a former Chair of an independent Muti-Academy Trust.

Originally from Northern Ireland, Sean has lived in and around London since 1983.  He is an avid supporter and has been a season-ticket holder of Arsenal FC since 1993. He is passionate about music, dance, and the arts. Sean holds IRRV (Hons) and CIPFA qualifications and is a CIPFA Fellow.
